Seeking is Finding

Dear the One,

Lacchaeus. What a thug.

Now, truthfully I don't think I'd be reading about this guy 'cept for my religion class that I'm taking, these days I usually focus my personal readings around the latter portions of the New Testament and the Book of Mormon. Even so, there is a lesson here that I've been learning.

Things have been an adventure. Did I tell you I was homeless for a minute? That my laptop completely died the other day? That I haven't found a job and the one that I did find I felt clearly that I wasn't to take? It's been an interesting road. I have to say that these last couple of months have had the potential to be the hardest since coming home from my mission, yet I've been sublimely led, miraculously healed, and remade once more in the light of Christ.

So back to Lacchaeus. He's this short dude, but mega-rich. Maybe he had some Napoleon in him, and maybe that was why he refused to miss his chance to see the savior on account of his height. Realizing he would never see over the throng of people, Lacchaeus ran ahead of the crowd thronging Jesus and climbed up a tree so he could see the Messiah. As Jesus approached, I imagine the sweet surprise when He calls out Lacchaeus' name and tells him He will dine at his home that night.

So back to my life. With everything that has happened, I have felt those moments come again and again where I was left to go find the Savior, put myself in His path as best I can, hoping beyond hope to catch a glimpse of the Savior in my life, because of how much I have needed Him. I've felt Him call out to me, to help me find solace, to help me find purpose, to dine with me and answer my questions and call me to a new work. I've felt His praise for me and I've felt chastisement.

Mostly, I've learned that when I seek after God, He seeks after me. And if it's true for both Lacchaeus and myself, I know it is true for all. I know He lives. I know that Jesus Christ is my risen Lord.

Onward and Upward,

Aaron Pennam
